More than just a game of golf

The golf club was originally primarily a club for service personnel. It is under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Defence Force, but in recent years has expanded to be a 500 strong golf course enjoyed by many civilians as well as service personnel.

Play our fairways whilst enjoying the comings and goings of New Zealand’s largest Air Base. You’ll catch glimpses of both large aircraft and various helicopters as you play a round of golf with us.

The course has some interesting, restricted areas such as the Bomb Dump which borders holes 7, 17 and 18. There is also some Out of Bounds areas close to the runways that are identified by rope and posts as the main runway is a prohibited area. Parts of the course are closed periodically for Defence Force requirements such as parachute landings. But equally it does mean some spectacular views of the planes and makes for some fun golf stories in the bar.

As the club is on an operational airfield there are not too many trees so the challenge on the course is often the wind, which does blow from all directions making each day a different challenge. Also the greens are not overly large – requiring careful management to be putting for that elusive Birdie.

PLEASE NOTE: Guests can only play golf at this course with a member due to the security restrictions of the club being on an active Air Force base.
